Map-work formatives?

Has anyone put together an map-work skills formatives for secondary grades (mostly after Grade 7 or 8)? Was thinking about something with landform features, map features (e.g. contour lines, scales)…

Thanks in advance!

Hey there @kallgood,

I realize I am coming into this pretty late in the game, and you may already be through your unit but thought I would share some resources I am aware of on the subject through the US Geological Survey.

Not in Formative format but might be helpful?

Have a great remainder of your weekend.

Cheers,
Andrew

Hi @kallgood, I teach 6th-grade ancient history so my maps are a bit content specific but here is some map work for the ancient river valley civilizations with word boxes and a couple of absolute and relative location questions placed at the end. Let me know if this helps!

Because I can only ‘like’ once… :blue_heart::green_heart::yellow_heart::orange_heart::purple_heart::blue_heart::green_heart::yellow_heart::orange_heart::purple_heart: I love this formative! We do Ancient Civilisations at the start of Grade 7 (around Feb) and your formative has sparked so many ideas in my head of how we could use it for a rolling revision/consolidation tool. Thank you for sharing it Kristen!

Thanks Andrew - I’m actually prepping for next year (my school finishes this week) so I appreciate any and all resources/links. I tinker all through the holidays so I’ve bookmarked the site in my ‘To Do’ folder!
